RPTFE (modified polytetrafluoroethylene) seals are a key sealing solution in the industrial sector due to their excellent chemical resistance, low friction coefficient, and wide temperature range (-200°C to +260°C). Mastering proper application techniques can significantly extend their service life and enhance sealing performance.

Pre-installation preparation is crucial. Although RPTFE is flexible, it is susceptible to cold flow deformation. Before installation, clean the sealing surface with anhydrous alcohol to avoid contamination from grease and particles. For dynamic seals such as O-rings, lightly moisten the surface with silicone oil or PTFE lubricant to reduce assembly friction and prevent tearing during installation. Be careful to avoid scratching the sealing surface with sharp tools; use a dedicated installation tool.

Precise control of the compression rate directly impacts sealing performance. For static seals, the recommended compression is 15%-30%, while for dynamic seals, maintain a 10%-20% compression ratio to prevent excessive wear. In high-pressure applications, multiple layers of sealing gaskets can be stacked, but ensure uniform load distribution between layers. For flange connections, it is recommended to use a metal spring accumulator ring to compensate for relaxation caused by long-term cold flow.

Maintenance precautions include regularly inspecting the seal surface for cracks or hardening (signs of aging). Replacement intervals should be shortened if the contact medium contains strong oxidizers (such as concentrated sulfuric acid). Store away from light, moisture, and organic solvents, and keep the ambient temperature below 50°C.

Filled and modified RPTFE materials may be used for special operating conditions: for example, glass fiber can be added to enhance wear resistance, carbon fiber can improve thermal conductivity, or bronze powder can be added to improve compressive strength. Proper selection and proper operation ensure that RPTFE seals perform optimally in demanding applications such as the chemical and semiconductor industries.
