Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a fluoroplastic with excellent chemical stability, high temperature resistance and low friction coefficient. It is widely used in chemical, electronic, medical and mechanical manufacturing fields. According to the processing technology and performance differences, PTFE can be divided into many types to meet the needs of different industries.
1. Classification by processing technology
(1) Molded PTFE
Made by molding process, it is suitable for manufacturing plates, rods and large seals. This type of PTFE has high density and mechanical strength and is often used in chemical pipeline seals, bearing bushings and other scenarios.
(2) Extruded PTFE
Produced by extrusion process, it is mainly used for pipes, rods and filaments. Extruded PTFE has good flexibility and pressure resistance and is suitable for wire and cable insulation and chemical corrosion-resistant pipelines.
(3) Dispersed PTFE
Processed in the form of emulsion, it can be made into films, coatings or filled composite materials. Dispersed PTFE offers excellent non-stick properties and chemical resistance, making it widely used in non-stick pan coatings, anti-corrosion linings, and lubricants.
2. Classification by Filler Modification
PTFE is often modified with fillers to enhance its mechanical properties or specific functions. The main types include:
Glass fiber-filled PTFE: Enhances wear resistance and dimensional stability, making it suitable for mechanical seals.
Carbon fiber-filled PTFE: Improves thermal conductivity and compressive strength, making it suitable for high-temperature bearings and electronic heat dissipation components.
Bronze-filled PTFE: Enhances wear resistance, making it suitable for high-load sliding parts.
Conductively filled PTFE: By adding carbon black or metal powder, it is used in anti-static and electromagnetic shielding applications.
3. Applications
Due to their varying properties, different types of PTFE are widely used in industries such as chemical corrosion protection, semiconductor manufacturing, automotive, and medical devices. Companies can select the appropriate PTFE type based on their specific needs to optimize product performance and cost-effectiveness.
